John joined Synergy Global in 2012 as Team Leader - Finance. Previously he worked for 30 years as an accountant in industry - but also as a facilitator and business mentor. He has held positions that include Board Director, Chief Financial Officer, Group Controller, Head of Internal Audit, Director of Process Simplification and Strategic Planning Manager. His experience includes strategic and financial planning, control systems, project evaluation, business process simplification, corporate governance, business risk management, internal audit, staff coaching and meeting facilitation. He has worked in businesses that were: project-based (eg engineering); process-based manufacturing (eg chemicals); batch-based manufacturing (eg detergents) as well as at Group/Head Office level. He has been located in the UK, Australia, North America and Asia Pacific.

John has led teams that re-engineered financial procedures and applied Continued Quality Improvement (CQI) to add business value. He led Continued Professional Development (CPD) initiatives that encouraged the use of global best practice based on "learning organisation" principles and created the opportunity for delegation of accountabilities and responsibilities. Using a risk management approach, he reinvented an annual internal audit program to improve its effectiveness by targeting key business risks. He developed and managed implementation of strategies for creating stand-alone shared services offices.

His career highlights include leading a Corporate Change Program for a major multi-national to simplify, standardise and integrate corporate financial reporting processes world-wide and accelerate reporting of financial and operating results. He also led process simplification teams that developed standard sales and procurement processes, self-audit programmes to improve the effectiveness of management information reporting and created a “corporate memory” of best practice stories that encouraged staff to innovate off the base of what already worked well and avoid continually “reinventing the wheel”.

John is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants (FCA) in England and Wales and of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD).
