David (Dave) joined Synergy Global as a Team Leader – Education & Restorative Justice (RJ) in 2013. He is dedicated to assisting schools and organisations get the best out of what they do. Along with other team members, Dave believes that improving the way people relate to each other in all work places, is one of the most vital ingredients in maximising wellbeing and effectiveness. As a recognised world leader in the development of Restorative Practices David has assisted many organisations to be at the cutting edge in their field.

Dave has taught almost every subject and worked in a very diverse range of roles including Assistant Principal, Student Counsellor, Head of School, Home Liaison Officer, and Permanent Relief Teacher for 3 years. He has also been responsible for the establishment of an alternative school setting catering to students and their families not able to cope with mainstream education. David established Australia’s first formal therapy dog program PAWS (pets as workers in schools) to assist the emotional wellbeing of alienated youth. In Tasmania he implemented an innovative curriculum-based program to engage disaffected students in the Bridgewater-Gagebrook community. He’s gained a reputation for working productively with students who many felt were beyond hope and creating innovative solutions to address relational tensions and interpersonal conflict. In 1995 David facilitated the first school-based Community Conference in TAS, AUS.

David is a well-known presenter with extensive experience in the area of relationship and behaviour management both nationally and internationally. He has highly developed skills as a Change Facilitator/Trainer/Presenter and is widely recognised as an international expert on restorative justice & behaviour management. David is an experienced Counsellor and Mediator including high-level management of critical incidents and school based trauma – he’s also played a major role in the introduction of restorative practice into schools in Australia and internationally.

Dave’s work in the international arena includes several years with the Singapore Ministry of Education training Guidance Branch Officers and the staff of pilot schools as one of the first Restorative Practice initiatives in Singapore. He has presented workshops on Mental Wellbeing and Restorative Practice to the International Mental Health Professionals Japan and facilitated a range of Cyber Safety and Bullying Workshops for international schools in the Tokyo area. He has recently returned from Brazil after working in São Paulo for 2 years mixing teaching and training for international schools.

Dave is a well published author in the area of Restorative Justice and has written papers on links with Restorative Practice and the International Baccalaureate. Dave lives with his partner Anne in Melbourne and their life coach Yuki, a black Labrador dog. Dave is a fully Registered Member of the Victorian Institute of Teaching and is currently an accredited Restorative Justice Facilitator and the Secretary of the Victorian Association for Restorative Justice (VARJ). Synergy Global has corporate memberships with both VARJ and Restorative Practices International (RPI).
