Colin Smith, Associate Consultant – Europe (based in London)

Colin joined Synergy Global’s West Team (SGWT) as a Consultant, Author & Facilitator, based in the South, UK in 2022.

Known as ‘The Listener’, Colin is a listening skills specialist & the ‘go-to’ person for individuals & teams who want to be heard, think for
themselves, & transform their business & personal relationships through active listening.

Colin has that innate ability to actively listen to people. He works with management, project & creative teams, facilitating the development &improvement of their listening & thinking skills. Thereby equipping them to meet their business, relationship & service challenges more effectively.

He also works privately with individuals, enabling them to feel heard & valued, to think more clearly for themselves, articulate their creative
ideas, address their personal concerns, & achieve their personal or professional goals.

Colin has had a varied & successful career in consultancy, business development, IT & client support, across many sectors, including finance, motor, retail & the NHS. Looking back, he realises that much of his success was due to his listening & connecting abilities.

His inquisitive & curious mind also enables him to explore, with others, unusual, thought provoking, yet grounded, observations & alternative approaches to systems, business, people & change. To make things happen, & to take ideas into action, he often connects our clients with his trusted network of entrepreneurs, free thinkers, & change makers.

Colin began his career in 1970, joining a Computer Bureau & from then on through to 1993, he worked for a number of IT companies, either in an Operations, Customer Service or latterly in Sales. These companies were engaged in selling computer software, hardware, data communications, & computer services. Typically, Colin’s was selling into corporate clients, including the likes of BT, Nationwide, Prudential, etc. In 1993, Colin joined a niche consultancy helping them to deliver a range of development services including bespoke Leadership & Management Development, Project Management, BS5750 & ISO 9000, & a range of programs for teams. By 2007, Colin had set up his own practice with the intention of “Connecting People who make a Difference”, being very much a middleman, building relationships with organisations & introducing them to other Executive Coaches/Consultants.

Colin’s expertise & interests focus around 5 key themes:

• Effectiveness Consulting: Organisation Development (OD), including culture & leading change more effectively

• Change Facilitation: Positive Deviants – supporting these types of people to get their message heard & highlight their role as Transformational Agents to their CEO/Board.

• Disruptive Dialogue – A 2hr conversation, with no specific agenda/outcome, with the knowledge that what’s covered will be innovative & valuable; igniting ideas to make a positive impact on Execs & a real difference to their business/org.

• Team Coaching, including creating trust & meaning, so that each team member can contribute to their potential.

He lives in London with his partner Molly. Interests include seeing family/friends, reading, gardening, walking & travel..
