Alasdair has had a portfolio career for the past thirty years. Whilst practising as a dentist & oral surgeon he developed a career in management and education. He has held non-director posts of local, regional and national level in both healthcare & commercial organisations. He was one of the youngest dentists ever to be appointed as Postgraduate Dental Dean, a post he held for seventeen years & was took a lead role in regional and national policy in health care. He managed a virtual team of over twenty-five people in this role.
He was during this time the Programme Director of Bristol Universities Open Learning for Dentists, the most successful postgraduate programme for dentists in Europe. During his tenure he took the programme from offering eight units for study to fourteen & developed an expertise in blended learning. To date over 900 diplomas have been awarded on this programme. He was instrumental in helping the establishment of the Peninsula Dental School.
In 2007 he was the first dentist to be assessed as worthy of the Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Educators. He has held national positions as an external examiner, quality assurance officer, council member of the Medical Defence Union & expert witness. Since 2000 he has been a non-executive director of the Lloyd & Whyte Group, the leading scheme insurance broker in the health care sector in the UK. During his time he has helped the Group grown in value over five hundred percent. In 2014 he was elected as the national President of the British Dental Association, in this role he travelled internationally exploring common themes with other national dental associations.

Alasdair lives in the West of England travelling around the UK to deliver seminars and workshops. He enjoys skiing and sailing and is learning to play tenor and alto saxophone.
